Review of “By the Sea”

Posted in Book Reviews tagged , , , , , , , , at 8:48 pm by Christine Rice

By the SeaBy the Sea by Joanne Clarey is a marvelous nonfiction book about a woman’s retreat to a quaint island. The author writes about what she sees while she’s there. She talks about fog, stones, sea glass, green crabs, seals, and roses in a way that makes you appreciate the beauty of these simple parts of life.

Clarey’s writing is so poetic and descriptive. Her words calmed me and made me feel peaceful. It was truly a joy to read her book and experience what she experienced on the island. She has a real gift for seeing beauty in life. Not to mention that she is knowledgeable about the particulars she talks about. She has researched them and shares her knowledge gently in her book. The book is also very well-written and truly a pleasure to read.

This book will change you. You will not live life the same way as before. You will have more serenity. My heart melts when I think of the beauty this book holds.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to take a vacation to a deserted island and enjoy the beauty of nature, or simply to feel peaceful and de-stress from life’s troubles. You can get your copy here.

New e-publishers and a Kindle purchase

Posted in Books, Self-Publishing, Writing tagged , , , , , , , , at 12:40 pm by Christine Rice

Hello readers,

I just want to let you know, plus I’m purely excited, that my books are now available in Kindle format on Amazon and additional ebook formats on Smashwords. Now there are more options for viewing and purchasing my books and everyone likes more options in life!

On a side note, I (finally!) purchased an e-reader (Kindle Touch) for myself for research and occasional leisure reading. I waited to buy it until I felt like I would like it and that it would be worth the investment. Plus, the price of them went down and they now have touchscreens, so I’m kind of glad I waited. I can’t wait until it arrives. For those of you who have a Kindle, what do you think of it? Do you like it as much as a traditional paperback book?

I need to get back to writing my book as I’ve been busy with adjusting and uploading my books with different e-publishers. I figure this post is a good way to jump into writing again after several days away. Have a great day, everyone. Happy reading and writing!

Christine

A new stop on my writing journey

Posted in Books, Editing, Lulu, Self-Publishing tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 4:59 am by Christine Rice

Hi, my name is Christine; I’m an author and a professional writer, and this is my blog. I love to write and I love to write about it (writing). I enjoy any topic that is related to writing: mechanics, voice, style, freelance writing, publishing, reading, the writing business, editing, research, websites, blogs, etc., etc. :) I love to talk about writing, so I created this blog.

I also created this blog because I am working on the beginnings of a new book, and I wanted a place to give updates on my progress. I’m hoping to write a book about what to expect in the first year of a freelance writing career (I’m coming up on my one year anniversary in April). I feel I have learned a lot (but still have a ways to go!) that I can share with others. Wouldn’t you, if you were thinking about becoming a freelance writer, want to know what to expect in the first year? There is not a book about this out yet, so hopefully I’ll be the first to write it!

I also want a place to let others know about my already-published books. Recently, while trying to help a fellow writer, I ended up helping myself too. I edited the ebook versions of my three published books in order to help my friend create hers (since I hadn’t created one in three years, I thought things might have changed). Well, I took that act of kindness and went above and beyond. I did second editions for two of the books, updated the print books, created brand new epubs and PDFs for all three books, and uploaded previews for all three books in every one of the three formats. Talk about a total renovation, and having gusto! All of my books can be found on my Lulu Spotlight (it is still updating with new changes, but should be correct soon).

I hope you will join me on this wonderful writing journey that I’ve been on for six years so far. I promise to keep you up-to-date.
