All sorts of things going on

Hi, all. I just want to provide a quick update. I’ve been working on my memoir, Freedom from Fat, and editing my other memoir, Chronicles of a Troubled Girl. Both are far along but still have a bit to go. The first draft of Freedom from Fat is not complete yet. It’s currently up to 46,000 words, but until I’ve reached my weight loss goals, I’ll still be working on it, because it chronicles my weight loss journey. I’m anticipating that I’ll be done with the first draft within one year. But sooner would be great, in more ways than one!

I’m currently on page 59 out of 230 in the editing/proofreading stage of Chronicles of a Troubled Girl, so I’m just about 1/4 through it. I only plan on doing one round of editing, since it is a compilation of journal entries and I want them to be as close to the original writing as possible. The entire memoir is 71,000 words.

Besides working on my books, I also have a freelance career during the week, and I focus on my health and fitness every day. I spend part-time hours working on all three aspects of my life. I like the variety, and they’re all important to me, so I have to manage my time to include them all in my life. I truly love writing books and connecting with my readers, working with my clients to help them with their publishing goals, and working out and eating healthy to have a healthy balance in my life. My weekends are spent relaxing, having fun, and doing housework. It’s quite challenging trying to fit everything in, but it’s the best way to live.

I have some book reviews I’ll be posting this week. One is How to Write an Essay, and the other is Wake up Successful – How to Increase your Energy and Achieve any Goal with a Morning Routine. Both are excellent nonfiction books that I’m looking forward to sharing with you.

So tell me how your life is going. What do you do for a career? What are your favorite things to do? What is your passion? I’d love to learn more about you. And let me know if you need help with writing or publishing, or if you’d like to be interviewed on my blog.

Above all, have a wondrous rest of your weekend!

Books Update

Posted in Books, Editing, Personal, Publishing, Reading, Self-Publishing, Writing tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 3:20 pm by Christine Rice

Hello everyone,

You’ve probably noticed that I’ve been posting mostly reviews and interviews for the past couple of months. And you are right. Since mid-October I haven’t posted about my books, namely my works-in-progress. Back in early September, I pretty much stopped writing in my works-in-progress due to publishing one of them (Freelance Writing Guide) and having a blog tour. I have no regrets, of course, because I was ecstatic about publishing a book I had been working on for eight months, and the blog tour was an absolutely great experience.

During the blog tour, I got my first client project in which I edited and formatted a novel. In case you didn’t know, I wear a few different hats in the publishing industry, including freelance writing, editing, and formatting in addition to being an author. A part of my freelance writing business is writing book reviews, which I post here for you all. Additionally, many of the books I review are free kindle books, so I hope I have helped you choose some great reads for cheap.

Shortly after my first client, I got another client, and many more, and I’ve been doing client projects ever since. My time is spent on client projects, reading and reviewing, blogging, networking, and also my health. In addition to being a writer, I am a health-conscious person, because I know without my health, I am nothing. So I work on being healthy, and becoming healthier, each day, in addition to my career.

I haven’t resumed working on my works-in-progress, besides updating Freedom from Fat with posts from my health blog, but I am 100% interested in finishing my works-in-progress and plan to do so in the future. I just cannot promise when that will be. Right now my interests lie in my health and growing my freelance business, and since I move through life naturally based on how it flows, I go with the flow.

I am certain that someday I will return to my works-in-progress, because I love writing and publishing books. It makes me so happy to get my thoughts and experiences in a permanent state that can be enjoyed for years to come. For now, I will go with the flow, and I will resume working on my works-in-progress once the flow returns to that part of my life.

I just wanted to reassure you all that I will be publishing the books I was working on, and I will keep posting on this blog.

Thanks for your kindness and support,

Christine

Autographed Books and Free Shipping!

The blog tour may be over, but there is still a lot going on! The day after the last day of the tour, I was interviewed on A Blue Million Books by Amy Metz. Thanks, Amy! I have another interview coming up on October 1st – can you believe it’s October already?! – and I will let you know when it’s posted.

I now need to get back to working on my works-in-progress. I think I’ll add to Freedom from Fat after I finish writing this. Chronicles of a Troubled Girl is up next to be published. I also need to compile all of my articles into Articles for the Mind, hopefully by December.

Is anyone interested in an autographed paperback copy of Freelance Writing Guide? I can order you one, sign it, and mail it to you myself (shipping will be on me) for only the base retail price ($14.99). If you love paperbacks and want to learn all about starting a freelance writing career, this is a great opportunity. So far, there’s been mostly 5-star reviews!

You can let me know by commenting below or emailing me at: christine_rice@charter.net. Pretty soon I will have my own author email, since I have my own domain name now :)

Have a great night!

The Month of July

Posted in Books, Editing, Publishing, Writing tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 10:35 pm by Christine Rice

Recap time! July was an excellent month for me, especially with working on my manuscripts. I edited a whole book (Freelance Writing Guide), wrote 15,800 words in Chronicles of a Troubled Girl, and wrote 2,700 words in Freedom from Fat. On top of that, I published 22 blog posts (between my two blogs), was interviewed by a book cover designer, edited two of my colleague’s articles, published five book reviews, participated in a Goodreads Giveaway and mailed out two copies of My Not-So-Ordinary Life to two winners, read four books, and contributed to a writer’s blog post. I also got my very own, really nice office chair after working hard as a writer for over 14 months. I still felt – and feel – privileged to have this chair.

August is going to be really busy, I can already tell, because I plan to do the final edit of Freelance Writing Guide and publish it, which also means that I’ll be sending out copies to my blog tour participants. Organizing a blog tour is like communicating with 20+ colleagues through email – it’s quite fun and keeps me busy! I will also be reading and reviewing three books, and posting to my blogs to keep you all updated :), as well as my other daily duties.

I hope you will all have a good month and stick around to see what’s happening next!

Editing “Freelance Writing Guide”

Posted in Books, Editing, Reading, Self-Publishing, Writing tagged , , , , , , , , , at 1:51 am by Christine Rice

I am currently in the editing stages of Freelance Writing Guide: What to Expect in Your First Year as a Freelance Writer. I have to admit that the manuscript is coming along nicely, as far as what I can see as I’m editing. It is pretty structurally sound and well-written. It mostly needs edits in grammar, formatting, and sentence structure. I’m glad I put in a little extra time when I wrote the first draft to make it less of a rough draft, because now the subsequent drafts are easier. I’m up to chapter 13 out of 22, so I’m more than halfway through the second draft (or first revision, as I like to call it). I’ve been editing at a rate of 2-3 chapters at a time, which takes me 1-2 hours.

My initial plan was to have the book published in September, but it could happen in August by the way things look right now. I need to set the book aside for a couple of weeks between edits. I can’t wait to have it complete so that I can work more intensively on Chronicles of a Troubled Girl to get that one wrapped up as well. I just don’t like loose ends laying around. I’m currently working on Freedom from Fat as well, which is an ongoing project, since I am working on accomplishing the feat I am writing about. Once I reach my weight loss goals, I will be ready to edit and publish that book. It will probably be in 2013.

I am reading a lot every day. I am currently reading Hell by John Prescott. I am enjoying that book, which is book 2 in a trilogy (Pray was book 1). I have stopped taking on new books to review, as I have a large pile already and want to get near the bottom before I take on any more. I am booked up through October, and like I said before, I don’t like loose ends.

Well, that’s about it. Things are going smoothly and I’m happy about that. To hear more frequent updates on my progress, “like” my Facebook page: Christine Rice ~ Freelance Writer and Author.

A Busy Month – June 2012

Posted in Books, Publishing, Writing tagged , , , , , , , , , at 12:04 am by Christine Rice

Since the beginning of the year, June was my busiest month. I went through a couple of months where my activity declined, but now it is in top speed. I’ve been reviewing books and networking a lot, but I’ve also been working on my manuscripts a lot too. And don’t forget about blog posts! This is what I accomplished last month:

  • Published 16 blog posts (between two blogs).
  • Published 10 book reviews.
  • Edited twice for a colleague.
  • Sold some books.
  • Completed the first draft of Freelance Writing Guide.
  • Unburied Freedom from Fat from 2010.
  • Wrote a total of 40,600 words in three manuscripts.

I am doing it all for my readers and for my pure enjoyment of writing. I hope you each find your passion and follow where it leads. Mine leads to happiness :)

“Freedom From Fat”

Posted in Books, Writing tagged , , , at 9:48 pm by Christine Rice

Since I’m very close to finishing Freelance Writing Guide, I thought about the next manuscript I will start working on. I decided that my next book will be on eating right and exercising. Then I remembered an old manuscript from 2010 about my weight loss journey while following a low-carb diet and exercising. I decided to bring it back to life, so last night I updated it. Freedom from Fat is the working title. It is a compilation of journal entries, and blog posts from my health blog, that are tied to my weight loss journey. Last night, I added many more journal entries, plus most of the blog posts from my health blog, which brought the word count from 7,000 to 24,000. I now have a sizable manuscript to work with, which feels great! I’m just so happy I saved that document, even when I fell off the wagon with my weight loss program. I still continued to blog about health at least once a month. The time frame of the entries is from 5/2010-present. I will be done with the first draft when I have lost all the weight I want to lose. So in about one year, I will likely be done. That’s not too long of a time to wait!
