All sorts of things going on

Hi, all. I just want to provide a quick update. I’ve been working on my memoir, Freedom from Fat, and editing my other memoir, Chronicles of a Troubled Girl. Both are far along but still have a bit to go. The first draft of Freedom from Fat is not complete yet. It’s currently up to 46,000 words, but until I’ve reached my weight loss goals, I’ll still be working on it, because it chronicles my weight loss journey. I’m anticipating that I’ll be done with the first draft within one year. But sooner would be great, in more ways than one!

I’m currently on page 59 out of 230 in the editing/proofreading stage of Chronicles of a Troubled Girl, so I’m just about 1/4 through it. I only plan on doing one round of editing, since it is a compilation of journal entries and I want them to be as close to the original writing as possible. The entire memoir is 71,000 words.

Besides working on my books, I also have a freelance career during the week, and I focus on my health and fitness every day. I spend part-time hours working on all three aspects of my life. I like the variety, and they’re all important to me, so I have to manage my time to include them all in my life. I truly love writing books and connecting with my readers, working with my clients to help them with their publishing goals, and working out and eating healthy to have a healthy balance in my life. My weekends are spent relaxing, having fun, and doing housework. It’s quite challenging trying to fit everything in, but it’s the best way to live.

I have some book reviews I’ll be posting this week. One is How to Write an Essay, and the other is Wake up Successful – How to Increase your Energy and Achieve any Goal with a Morning Routine. Both are excellent nonfiction books that I’m looking forward to sharing with you.

So tell me how your life is going. What do you do for a career? What are your favorite things to do? What is your passion? I’d love to learn more about you. And let me know if you need help with writing or publishing, or if you’d like to be interviewed on my blog.

Above all, have a wondrous rest of your weekend!

Books Update

Hello everyone,

You’ve probably noticed that I’ve been posting mostly reviews and interviews for the past couple of months. And you are right. Since mid-October I haven’t posted about my books, namely my works-in-progress. Back in early September, I pretty much stopped writing in my works-in-progress due to publishing one of them (Freelance Writing Guide) and having a blog tour. I have no regrets, of course, because I was ecstatic about publishing a book I had been working on for eight months, and the blog tour was an absolutely great experience.

During the blog tour, I got my first client project in which I edited and formatted a novel. In case you didn’t know, I wear a few different hats in the publishing industry, including freelance writing, editing, and formatting in addition to being an author. A part of my freelance writing business is writing book reviews, which I post here for you all. Additionally, many of the books I review are free kindle books, so I hope I have helped you choose some great reads for cheap.

Shortly after my first client, I got another client, and many more, and I’ve been doing client projects ever since. My time is spent on client projects, reading and reviewing, blogging, networking, and also my health. In addition to being a writer, I am a health-conscious person, because I know without my health, I am nothing. So I work on being healthy, and becoming healthier, each day, in addition to my career.

I haven’t resumed working on my works-in-progress, besides updating Freedom from Fat with posts from my health blog, but I am 100% interested in finishing my works-in-progress and plan to do so in the future. I just cannot promise when that will be. Right now my interests lie in my health and growing my freelance business, and since I move through life naturally based on how it flows, I go with the flow.

I am certain that someday I will return to my works-in-progress, because I love writing and publishing books. It makes me so happy to get my thoughts and experiences in a permanent state that can be enjoyed for years to come. For now, I will go with the flow, and I will resume working on my works-in-progress once the flow returns to that part of my life.

I just wanted to reassure you all that I will be publishing the books I was working on, and I will keep posting on this blog.

Thanks for your kindness and support,

Christine

Keeping you Posted…

Posted in Books, Personal, Reading, Writing tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , at 3:10 am by Christine Rice

Okay, so I’ve taken a few days off from working on my manuscripts in order to get some extra sleep, get ahead in my reading, exercise, write blog posts, and upload new covers for two of my books. I also spent time with my husband and even had a day where I hardly worked, which I haven’t done in a long time.

It is time, however, to buckle down and get back to work (at least the writing/editing part). I need to edit Freelance Writing Guide, and my goal is to have the first revision done by the end of July. I also have to finish up “Chronicles of a Troubled Girl,” which I only have less than 1/3 left to write. That book is coming along quickly now, but will slow down a bit as I work on editing the first book.

By the way, I got a new desk chair–a rolling one with arm rests that is comfortable. I’ve wanted a new chair for the past 6 months. Finally, I have a real desk chair made for a writer!

So, starting tomorrow I will be super productive and not spend too much time dealing with online things. Who plans on being productive tomorrow? I know it’s Friday, but every day is a chance to start anew :)

News Flash

Posted in Personal, Writing tagged , , , , , , , , , , at 8:56 pm by Christine Rice

Do you want the good news or the bad news first? Well, the bad news is not terribly bad…I’ve just slowed down with my pace of working on my manuscripts. I still have been writing a little each month, but not near the 16,000 words a month that I was doing before. I promise they’ll be published someday! But right now (and for a while) I need to focus on my physical health, and try to improve it, which is a good thing! You can learn more about my experiences with that here: Christine’s Health Blog – Chronicles of Healthy Living. I just want to give you the opportunity to see what I’ve been working on and the reason why I haven’t been writing as much. I believe health and happiness are the two most important aspects of life, so writing must come secondary. I still love to write and that’s why I’m a writer! I just want to confess that my interests have been a bit elsewhere.

Now, it’s time for the good news!

  • I recently returned to Textbroker (ghostwriting website) where I have been working on team projects and applying to more team projects.
  • I am scheduled to participate in another author’s blog tour around July/August, so be on the lookout on this blog for a book review and blog tour schedule for this author, who will remain anonymous until I find out more information.
  • I have been blogging regularly (on my health blog–link above).
  • And I’m increasing the amount of reading I do, in order to write more book reviews.

As far as other areas of my life, I’m expecting some family to stay with me for several days in the beginning of next month. And I’m trying to help my husband (who is diabetic) to live a healthier lifestyle as far as his eating and exercising. I’m also working out six days a week myself, taking care of my furry baby (cat) Tangerine, doing housework and household chores, running errands, spending quality time with my husband, and taking a little time out for relaxing. So, I’ve definitely been busy!

I am still very interested in finishing my two manuscripts that I mentioned above, even though, I admit, writing two manuscripts at the same time is not an easy task! I simply have not had enough time or concentration to sit down and compose pages of prose, but my manuscripts are not forgotten! I’ve come too far with them to just give up. I am determined to finish what I started and publish them!

Thanks for your support in my writing endeavors. Take care everyone, and have a great weekend (starting tomorrow)!

Another productive day :-)

Posted in Books, Personal, Writing tagged , , , , , , at 5:55 pm by Christine Rice

Yesterday I was up early, cleaned the floors, and got in some much needed exercise, so it was a good day. I also read a little, and sent messages to one of my writer friends and my mom. It was a well-rounded, but non-writing, day. That was because after doing the housecleaning and exercise I was too tired to get involved in much else.

Today, I was up early again (three days in a row!), made coffee, made the bed, washed up, and then settled in for some reading. Later, I wrote 1,500 words in Chronicles of a Troubled Girl, and then I read some more. I’m happy to get a lot of reading done, as I’m working on finishing up a 467-page book (less than 100 pages to go!) that is technical and historical, yet futuristic. Although it is a difficult read for me, it is an interesting book and is more action-packed now that I’m towards the end. Keep your eyes peeled for a review in a few days :-)

I’m happy to say my books are coming along nicely. “Chronicles” has some highly personal information in it, but not too personal that I won’t share it with my readers. I kept most of the personal stuff in, since it is a book of journal entries and journals are personal. Freelance Writing Guide is going strong. One more month and I’ll be celebrating one year as a freelance writer. “Freelance” is a reference book – though I hope I’m also making it into an enjoyable read – so it takes a lot of mental energy to write. The books I’m writing compliment each other in an opposite way, like complimentary colors!

I hope you all are enjoying your days, whether they are relaxing or productive.

Productive day

Posted in Books, Personal, Writing tagged , , , , , , , at 10:32 pm by Christine Rice

I didn’t sleep much last night, actually I should say this morning. I think the total was 4 1/2 hours. Regardless, I had a fabulous day! I lit candles, incense, and diffusers for a pleasant ambiance; I read for about an hour; I wrote 1,400 words in my books (some in both); and I did a load of laundry. I spent most of the day alone, because my husband was out at a cooking event and I didn’t want to go.

I felt productive and motivated all day, which was a pleasant change from the low energy days I’ve been having lately. It felt great to get both reading and writing done today. It was even nice taking care of the laundry, because the laundry room is in the basement, and I live on the third floor, so I got some exercise. Along those lines, I’ve decided I need to get out more to get more exercise. I like exercising my brain, but not my body so much ;)

Another thing that was good about today was I wrote in Freelance Writing Guide. I haven’t worked on it since the beginning of the month, because I have been working on Chronicles of a Troubled Girl instead (due to a shift in inspirational flow), so it was nice to revisit the world of freelance writing and I wrote a chapter on cover letters. Since January, I have written 21,000 words in Chronicles of a Troubled Girl and 15,000 words in Freelance Writing Guide. I do not see the end in sight yet, but I know I’ll get there!

I hope tomorrow turns out to be as good as today!

Reflection and gratitude

Posted in Books, Personal, Writing tagged , , , , , , , , , , at 1:22 am by Christine Rice

I can tell it’s been a while since I’ve last written, when I don’t know what to say. I get involved in the actions of the day and forget what matters most – being grateful for what I have. It is important to reflect on what I do and what I feel, so that I can see the movement of my life and heart, rather than remain trapped in the whirlwind of activity. In other words, I have been busy, and have forgotten to stop and reflect and show gratitude for my readers.

Let’s reminisce since my last update…I had an event for my books on Smashwords last week, published a guest post on my friend’s blog this week, edited a friend’s article today, and in between it all I’ve been reading (200 pages) for an upcoming book review, and writing (5,000 words total) in my works-in-progress. Now that I’ve written it down, I can see I’ve been accomplishing, and progressing with my writing; but in the act of living, and the realization of the tasks I need to do to accomplish my goals, it is hard to see that I’m getting…anywhere!

I keep records and charts of everything, and even so, it seems like I’m not getting far. But I am. I can only do so much in one day. Today, for example, I read 25 pages for my upcoming book review, edited a friend’s article, got the shopping list and coupons ready for tomorrow, and cleaned the bathroom top to bottom. I also kept up with my published books, business records, and forum discussions, and messaged a good friend.

I want to let you know that I am grateful for all of you, and I would like to show it by publishing this post on reflection and gratitude.

The books are coming along…nicely

Posted in Books, Personal, Writing tagged , , , , , , at 6:49 pm by Christine Rice

Hi everyone,

I thought it would be appropriate to give you an update on the books I’m writing. I am 1/3 finished with the freelance writers book and I am 1/7 finished with the journal entries book. The second book will probably be at least twice as long as the first book. I’ve written further in it and I started it later in the year. I find it easier to write more when I’m typing and editing than when I’m writing from scratch. However, I feel prouder about the first book, because it is more challenging for me and more universally acceptable.

Even more exciting is that I have improved my working titles. I have recently come up with: New to Freelance Writing Guide: What to Expect in Your First Year and Chronicles of a Troubled Girl. I’m not ecstatic about the titles, but they are sufficient, at least for now. I definitely felt troubled growing up. I was always at odds with my parents, feeling like an adult and not wanting to listen to what they told me. I was rebellious and unique. I had negative mental health experiences and overly controlling parents, plus there was drug addiction and alcoholism in my immediate family. Throughout it all, I was trying to develop my identity and be happy.

As far as freelance writing, I have learned a lot about the field while working nearly full-time the entire year, and I am coming up on one successful year in April. I have experienced so much that I feel compelled to share what I know, while believing that it will help people have a realistic and hopeful outlook of being, or becoming, a freelance writer.

I should be finished with the two books by the end of this year. In fact, at the rate I’m going I will probably be done much sooner, and that’s exciting!
