New book published – Articles for the Mind

Posted in Books, Publishing, Self-Publishing tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 7:00 am by Christine Rice

I have good news this week too. I compiled a book of all of the articles I have written and published it. It is called Articles for the Mind. It consists of 58 short articles that are informative and sometimes advising, on the subjects of beauty, health, careers, education, family, pets, financial planning, frugal living, money, food, holidays, home, psychology, self-help, values, and writing. The book is grouped into chapters with those subjects as the chapter titles, so the book is easy to navigate and easy to find what you need. There is also a foreword, an afterword, and an about the author page. The cover is below:

It is published on Amazon (Kindle) and Smashwords. Eventually it will be available at Barnes & Noble (Nook), iBookstore, Sony, and Kobo. It will also eventually be published in print and available as a paperback at Amazon. I’m really happy that all of the valuable information in this book is available to the public. I hope the advice and information helps people.

Thank you for your support. It is because of you that I enjoy publishing books.

Book updates

Posted in Books, Publishing, Self-Publishing tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 7:00 am by Christine Rice

I have some exciting news to report. I’ve been spending much more time on my books lately. One week ago, I republished my four books with Kindle Direct Publishing and Smashwords. I worked on the formatting all day for three days to improve the look and readability. I also designed new covers for some.

I also republished my books with CreateSpace as smaller-sized paperbacks with attractive interior and exterior styling. However, the paperbacks are not ready yet. I’ve been making edits to them to make sure they look great, and each edit delays the process by at least a day. Right now I’m waiting to hear back from the CreateSpace staff about the covers, because they did not come out the same as the document I uploaded.

But my ebooks are all set and live at Amazon and Smashwords. In the near future, my books will be available in paperback from Amazon, and at Barnes & Noble (Nook), Apple iBookstore, Sony, and Kobo. Below are pictures of the book covers and links to the books:

All sorts of things going on

Posted in Books, Editing, Freelance Career, Personal, Publishing, Reading, Writing tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 3:56 pm by Christine Rice

Hi, all. I just want to provide a quick update. I’ve been working on my memoir, Freedom from Fat, and editing my other memoir, Chronicles of a Troubled Girl. Both are far along but still have a bit to go. The first draft of Freedom from Fat is not complete yet. It’s currently up to 46,000 words, but until I’ve reached my weight loss goals, I’ll still be working on it, because it chronicles my weight loss journey. I’m anticipating that I’ll be done with the first draft within one year. But sooner would be great, in more ways than one!

I’m currently on page 59 out of 230 in the editing/proofreading stage of Chronicles of a Troubled Girl, so I’m just about 1/4 through it. I only plan on doing one round of editing, since it is a compilation of journal entries and I want them to be as close to the original writing as possible. The entire memoir is 71,000 words.

Besides working on my books, I also have a freelance career during the week, and I focus on my health and fitness every day. I spend part-time hours working on all three aspects of my life. I like the variety, and they’re all important to me, so I have to manage my time to include them all in my life. I truly love writing books and connecting with my readers, working with my clients to help them with their publishing goals, and working out and eating healthy to have a healthy balance in my life. My weekends are spent relaxing, having fun, and doing housework. It’s quite challenging trying to fit everything in, but it’s the best way to live.

I have some book reviews I’ll be posting this week. One is How to Write an Essay, and the other is Wake up Successful – How to Increase your Energy and Achieve any Goal with a Morning Routine. Both are excellent nonfiction books that I’m looking forward to sharing with you.

So tell me how your life is going. What do you do for a career? What are your favorite things to do? What is your passion? I’d love to learn more about you. And let me know if you need help with writing or publishing, or if you’d like to be interviewed on my blog.

Above all, have a wondrous rest of your weekend!

Cover Reveal

Posted in Books, Publishing, Self-Publishing tagged , , , , , , , at 1:52 pm by Christine Rice

How are you all doing today? I’ve been enjoying the spring weather and trying to get outside as much as possible. Some news: I’m pleased to announce that my book cover for Chronicles of a Troubled Girl has been created. I won the free cover design on a giveaway courtesy of ErmisendaDESIGN on Ermilia Blog. I am very pleased with the cover and I think it represents my memoir very well. None of my published books have people on them, but I knew the cover for Chronicles needed a teenage girl on it. If you like my cover, visit ErmisendaDESIGN and contact Ermisenda for your own book cover. You can also visit Ermilia Blog, where she has giveaways and free book covers. Take care!

Editing and formatting my work-in-progress

Posted in Books, Editing, Publishing tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 12:02 pm by Christine Rice

Hello, World!

I am pleased to announce that I have resumed working on my work-in-progress, Chronicles of a Troubled Girl. I’m in the editing and formatting stage. I worked on it for over two hours yesterday. What got me working on it again? Well, my husband mentioned my book, asking how I was coming along with it. I told him I had finished writing it and I just needed to edit it. That conversation created a spark in my mind that motivated me to resume working on it. I intend to spend as much time on it as I can until it’s finished and ready to publish.

I’m enjoying reading the book as I’m editing it. I think it’s going to be a great book that tells the story – in the form of personal journal entries – of my challenging life. There are a few journal entries from when I was 9 and 10 years old. Then it glides into my teenage years, starting with age 14 and continuing all the way up to age 30. That was the last time I wrote a journal entry, because I didn’t need the therapy of journal writing to get through tough times, because my life had smoothed out and improved.

In the book my personal thoughts and unique actions are communicated. I talk about the people who meant the most to me. My feelings are as clear as day and permeate from the words I wrote. My experiences of growing up with controlling parents, my rebellion against my parents and life, my use of drugs and alcohol, my mental illness, my eating disorder, my career changes, love and relationships, and going to school to pursue my passions are all revealed in this book.

The book is personal, deep, revealing, and honest. The words were written respectfully and tactfully, so I did not go into extreme detail about uncomfortable matters; therefore, the book will not embarrass me or my readers.

If you would like to read and review my book, email me at christine@christinerice-author.com, and as soon as it’s published (which I anticipate will be in a couple months or less) I’ll email you an ebook copy in exchange for your promise to write a short review on it.

I can’t wait to wrap up this book and get it out to the world!

Have a great day!

Seven/Seven Blog Challenge!

Posted in Books, Writing tagged , , , , , , , , , at 8:00 am by Christine Rice

Hello fellow readers and writers!

I was graciously asked by B B Shepherd to participate in an author blog challenge. It’s called the “seven/seven blog challenge” and it sounds like a great opportunity to share my work-in-progress, Chronicles of a Troubled Girl, with you! Before I do, here are the details of the blog challenge:

1. Choose seven lines from page 7 or 77 of your current work-in-progress.

2. Invite seven other writers to post the same and link back to you.

3. Mention and link back to the person who nominated you.

Here is a little background on my book: Chronicles of a Troubled Girl is a compilation of all of my journal entries from childhood to age 30. It shares my thoughts, emotions, and life experiences during a rocky time in my life. So, without further ado, here are seven lines from page 77 of the first draft of Chronicles of a Troubled Girl:

What I think I am living is really just a long dream my soul is remembering. But how do I know anything about life? What am I supposed to think of life? How am I supposed to perceive it? It is so complicated and I may never even find out in the end.

Who are the intelligent ones? Who is real? Who are my friends? These are all unstable, because they are always changing. I think something is something, but it turns out to be another, so I never know what I am facing in life. I hate instability. I want little or no pain. I am killing myself. Who am I? Who are these people around me?

The first draft of this book has been completed and next I’ll be proofreading it. It won’t be long before it’s published! I’ll definitely let you know when it is!

So far, Amanda R. Dollak will be participating in the challenge. If you would like to participate too, comment below and I’ll add a link to your blog to this post.

Have a great day and keep writing!

Christine

First draft of “Chronicles of a Troubled Girl” finished!

Posted in Books, Editing, Publishing tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 8:57 am by Christine Rice

The day after my last post, which was about how I hadn’t worked on my manuscripts in a few months, I resumed working on my work-in-progress: Chronicles of a Troubled Girl. I wrote for one to two hours a day most days, and I’m happy to say that I finished the first draft the other day! It feels great to have completed the writing part of the book project.

The next step is to edit. Since it is a compilation of my journal entries from childhood to adulthood, and I want the book to be as accurate of the times as possible, I will not be doing a lot of editing. I will just review what I have written for spelling and grammar. Since I did that as I typed the journals, there will not be much editing to do. It will be a fairly quick review process and I will only need to go through the manuscript once, since I am also a professional editor.

Lately, I’ve been trying to spend less time on the computer since my body has been feeling stiff and uncomfortable when I sit for too long – due to previous leg injuries. But I’m sure I will begin editing soon. And since my last post motivated me to finish the first draft, I am hoping this post will inspire me to begin editing. I will just need to spend less time online each day so that I’ll be able to spend time editing the manuscript, and I’ll only be able to work on it for an hour at a time so that I can get up and stretch my legs.

I am looking forward to editing Chronicles of a Troubled Girl and moving on with the publishing process and getting it out to the public. I will not be doing a blog tour, since it is a very personal memoir. I prefer that people I know, and those I announce it to, will be the first to read it, and I will allow word-of-mouth to be the main method of marketing.

I hope you all have a joyous day. Happy writing and reading!
